PREMIUMMilitary reserve looks to millennials despite criticisms

first_img#military military military-reserve-component #military-reserve-component millennials #millenials Facebook Google The Defense Ministry plans to start recruiting young people to become military reservists sometime in the middle of this year, as an implementation of the 2019 law on the management of national resources for state defense, despite criticisms.According to the law, the military reserve is a voluntary service that can be mobilized to strengthen the Indonesian Military (TNI) when it is dealing with armed threats. The law, which was enacted last September, stipulates that citizens aged between 18 and 35 years have the right to participate in the program under the condition they pass a number of tests and be on call until they are 48. They are also required to undergo basic military training for three months. The ministry is now seeking millennials aged 18 and above to enroll in the program, according to the ministry’s defense potential general director, Bondan Tiara Sofyan. Dodgers will hand the ball to Clayton Kershaw for Game 4

first_imgST. LOUIS >> After the last game Clayton Kershaw pitched for the Dodgers, he openly wondered if it would be his final game of the season. He had just been handed the worst defeat of his career, allowing eight runs in seven innings in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.Games 4 and 5 were no guarantee after the Dodgers lost the game 10-9, and “who knows if they even want me to pitch at this point,” Kershaw said at the time.Don Mattingly wanted Kershaw to pitch, all right. Even though he never said so publicly, the Dodgers’ manager wanted Kershaw to start Game 4 all along.“I think we pretty much knew at the beginning of the series,” Mattingly said. Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error Why?“He’s our best guy.”Turns out one game can’t erase a whole season’s worth of confidence, after all.A year ago, Mattingly announced Kershaw would pitch Game 4 of the NLDS on three days’ rest. But that was after the Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves to take a two-games-to-one advantage in the series.Mattingly made this call before — apparently long before — the Dodgers played the Cardinals in Game 4 on Monday. Shelby Miller, a 23-year-old right-hander, is scheduled to start for St. Louis. center_img The Dodgers’ decision came with a number of immediate implications.Dan Haren, who was scheduled to start Game 4, moves to the bullpen instead. Zack Greinke, who threw seven shutout innings in Game 2, will start Game 5 on Thursday in Los Angeles if there is a Game 5.And the Cardinals are guaranteed a second crack at Kershaw, who was blindsided by their seventh-inning outburst in Game 1.“There’s always something to prove,” Kershaw said when asked about the loss. “This game is very humbling. People don’t care about what you’ve done in the past. It’s ‘what have you done for me lately?’ People turn on you really fast and I know that.”It helped Kershaw’s case that he performed well on three days’ rest a year ago, allowing only three hits and two unearned runs in six innings against the Braves. The Dodgers won that game to advance to the NL Championship Series against the Cardinals. He hasn’t pitched on fewer than four days’ rest since.“Obviously it’s not something we would even think about doing over the course of the season, really,” Mattingly said. “But this is a different time.”Apparently the Cardinals’ recent success against Kershaw didn’t hurt him. When St. Louis rallied from a 6-1 deficit to win Game 1, Kershaw became the first pitcher to allow at least seven runs in consecutive postseason starts. He allowed seven runs in Game 6 of the 2013 NLCS at Busch Stadium, which allowed the Cardinals to eliminate the Dodgers and move on to the World Series.Including the postseason, Kershaw is 2-5 with a 3.97 ERA in nine career starts at Busch Stadium.Haren, who was drafted by St. Louis in 2001 and traded to Oakland before the Cardinals moved into their new ballpark, has only made three starts here. He won one, lost one, and recorded a 3.05 ERA.More than past performance however, the move seems designed to take advantage of the Dodgers’ personnel with their season on the line.In Kershaw and Greinke, the Dodgers have two of baseball’s highest-paid — and best-performing — pitchers in their prime. Kershaw has proven he can perform on short rest at the end of a long season. Greinke has proven he can dominate the Cardinals. Kershaw hasn’t, at least not recently and not for seven innings. That was immaterial on Monday. He has a chance to reverse the narrative today.“Obviously after as bad as I pitched in Game 1 it wasn’t going to be me go in there and say, I want the ball,” Kershaw said. “I was definitely ready for it and definitely wanted to do it, just waiting for the opportunity.”last_img read more
