Vin Diesel reveals Guardians will be in Avengers Infinity War

first_imgAs we get ever closer to the release of the next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie this November – Doctor Strange – the Marvel publicity machine hasn’t made any major announcements since giving their enthusiastically received San Diego Comic-Con presentation. Instead, the newest happening in the MCU comes from a somewhat unexpected source: Vin Diesel’s Facebook page.In case you haven’t stumbled across something on the internet from Vin Diesel’s Facebook page before, know that the Fast & Furious and Chronicles of Riddick star will occasionally break actual news there. Othertimes, he’s wildly entertaining or genuinely positive, though confusing. It seemed like a good time for Vin Diesel to take to social media, even if news about Avengers: Infinity War isn’t what anyone was expecting. There’s been a little bit of celebrity drama surrounding Vin Diesel during the past few weeks. Apparently on the set of the newest Fast and Furious movie, Fast 8, the star and Dwayne Johnson did not get along. The public first got wind of this when Johnson took to social media to talk about a “candy ass” castmate. A few days later, the gossip kicked up a name: Vin Diesel. It’s unclear exactly what was happening between the two (apparently something with how long Vin Diesel takes in his trailer, maybe?), but when Diesel went Live on Facebook, people rushed to view. After talking about how he had wrapped shooting, commenting on how beautiful the weather was and praising his Facebook fan collective community, Diesel started talking about his first Marvel meeting when he had a picture taken in front of the cover for an Avengers comic. Then (about 20mins and 40 seconds in) he said “Now the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that’s incredibly exciting.”This is the first confirmation that we’ve heard that the Chris Pratt lead team from James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy and next February’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 will be in Avengers: Infinity War.The next Avengers movie will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (who directed Captain America: Civil War) and written by the writers of that film, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. When it was announced, Avengers Infinity War was split into two movies: Part 1 on May 4th 2018 and Part 2 on May 3rd 2019. Since, the title “Infinity War” has been shifted to meaning just the first movie and the fourth Avengers movie will be retitled. The Russo brothers say that Infinity War won’t be a two part story like, say, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Instead Infinity War will wrap up the trilogy of Avengers movies and provide some “new beginnings” that have remained vague. Right now, Markus and McFeely are working on the third draft of Infinity War for a November production start date.Vin Diesel recently wrapped not only Fast 8 but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It sounds like he will have a month free from franchise filmmaking before finishing Guardians post-production audio and doing pre-production on Infinity War. Just how big of a part will Vin Diesel play in the Infinity War Groot portrayal? It’s hard to say. It seems like Groot is miniature-sized in Volume 2, but who doesn’t want to see a full sized groot take on an enraged back-from-space Hulk, right?last_img read more

Happy Birthday Master John Simm

first_imgStay on target Happy birthday, John Simm!Born in Leeds, the 47-year-old actor and musician made his professional debut in 1992 in an episode of BBC’s Rumpole of the Bailey. It wasn’t until three years later, though, that he broke out as troubled teenager Bill Preece in ITV police drama Cracker. The same year, Simm snagged his first feature role in Boston Kickout, beating Dennis Hopper to the Best Actor award at the Valencia Film Festival. In 1996, he made his professional stage entrance in Goldhawk Road in London.Working steadily through the ’90s, Simm earned accolades for performances in The Lakes, Human Traffic, and Wonderland. The new millennium brought parts in Miranda (alongside future War Doctor, the late John Hurt), 24 Hour Party People, State of Play, Sex Traffic, and Life on Mars (in which he plays a time-travelling police officer named after Doctor Who companion Rose Tyler). But despite a solid resume, Simm remains most famous for playing the Doctor’s greatest foil.John Simm is the Master (via BBC)Chosen by Russell T. Davies to play the nutty nemesis to David Tennant’s titular Time Lord, Simm appeared in the final three episodes of series three: Fatally wounded, the Master crawls into the Doctor’s TARDIS and regenerates into a younger body: John Simm.Transported back to Earth, he takes on the alias of “Harold Saxon”—Minister of Defense of Great Britain, and soon-to-be-elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.Simm reprised the role in 2009’s double-act special “The End of Time,” and later revealed that he’d “love the opportunity to play him [the Master] differently.”“I’d love to have another take on him, to be a bit quieter,” he told an audience at the 2012 Cheltenham Literature Festival.“I started annoying myself after a while,” he admitted of the cackling character. “Russell T. Davies had a specific idea of what he wanted him to be like. So I just had to do exactly what he wanted me to, and he wanted a giggling lunatic.”Viewers of season 10’s two-part finale know that Simm finally got his wish: Departing showrunner Steven Moffat wrote a more reserved, yet equally corrupt, version of the villain.Missy (Michelle Gomez) and the Master (John Simm) team up for destruction (via BBC)“I had the opportunity to play it differently,” Simm said in the most recent issue of Doctor Who Magazine. The actor was just as surprised as fans to see the male Master return.“I thought this ship had sailed. I really did,” he told DWM, adding that “I was very happy being David’s Master, and I really thought that was it [with] the whole changing of the guard. I thought, ‘Well, that’s my era over.’“So I was thrilled—I was really thrilled—to get to revisit a character 10 years on, especially such an iconic one,” Simm added.Don’t hold your breath, though, for a fourth turn as the Master, who was literally stabbed in the back by Missy (who, in turn, was shot in the back by the Master).Get your John Simm fix in two seasons of Shonda Rhimes’ thriller The Catch, and look for him in the upcoming TV mini-series Collateral, also starring Billie Piper (Rose Tyler).Stream all of Doctor Who now for free with your Amazon Prime membership.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.
