NIS treats elderly to Christmas lunch

first_imgDecked out in their fine attires, the elderly of The Palms were on Monday treated to a Christmas lunch by the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).Senior citizens of The Palms being treated to lunch by NISThe event was held at the institution located on Brickdam, Georgetown, and saw some 188 senior citizens from the senior citizens home, who sat around tables that were put together by the insurance scheme.Public Relations Officer of NIS, Dianne Lewis Baxter, told Guyana Times that the lunch for the elderly is a way to give back to the community. She said it was a way of giving back to those who might have been forgotten by their families.“This has been going on for over 25 years and we come over to The Palms and we try to put a smile on the face of the residents, being so close to us as our neighbours. We have chosen to come to this institution to give back to some of the persons who have contributed to the development of Guyana. Many of them are NIS pensioners,” she said.Residents of The Palms dancing at the luncheon on MondayMeanwhile, the senior citizens were also treated to songs, dances, words of encouragement, along with gifts that the PRO said: “can be used daily”.last_img
