Exclusive – Matic is ‘priceless’, claims ex-Chelsea star

first_imgFrank Sinclair has hailed Chelsea star Nemanja Matic as “priceless.”The Serbian midfielder has been one of the Blues’ star performers this season and has been a revelation since returning to Stamford Bridge for a second spell in January this year. And Sinclair, who spent almost a decade with the west London club and won the FA Cup and League Cup during his time there, insists the 26-year-old is fulfilling a crucial role for the Premier League leaders.“Matic is priceless,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “It’s no coincidence that he didn’t play in the one game they lost this season [against Newcastle]. He plays a big part.“And in the last few games [John Obi] Mikel has come back in as well and they look even more solid with the two of them in there, and that gives Cesc Fabregas the licence to get forward and do his stuff further up the pitch.”Chelsea ensured they would go into the busy festive period top of the league with a battling 2-0 win at Stoke on Monday night, and Sinclair believes it was important they maintained that momentum. He added: “It was a big statement to beat Stoke because Man City are going well and they would have had a boost going into the New Year if they were joint top.“For what Chelsea have done so far this season, being so far in front and then being pegged back by City, I think it was important they kept that little gap going into the Christmas period.”last_img
