Butch Jones Has Officially Landed A New Coaching Job

The former Cincinnati and Tennessee head coach has officially accepted a position on Mike Locksley’s staff, according to a new report.InsideMDSports.com’s Jeff Ermann first reported that the Jones hire was a done deal. The Spun reported via sources on Monday that Jones was in College Park interviewing with Locksley about the associate head coach position.Per Ermann, Jones will also coach tight ends in addition to serving as associate head coach. He comes to Maryland after spending the 2018 season as an offensive analyst at Alabama under Nick Saban.While in Tuscaloosa, Jones worked alongside Locksley, who was Saban’s offensive coordinator. He has been the head coach at Central Michigan, Cincinnati and Tennessee.For his career, Jones is 84-54 as a head coach. He has lead his teams to eight bowl appearances and has a 4-2 record in those game (Jones did not coach in his final bowl game at Central Michigan or Cincinnati because he was in the process of taking a new job).Maryland finished 5-7 this season under interim head coach Matt Canada.Canada filled in for D.J. Durkin, who was suspended and later dismissed in the wake of the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair during a summer workout.last_img
