Double Fines next game Stacking is a puzzle adventure starring Depressionera Russian

first_imgTim Schaefer‘s Double Fine is one of my favorite gaming companies, but its first two major games, while both cult classics, didn’t go over too well commercially. Both Psychonauts and Brutal Legend were broad and inventive in scope, but ultimately, this boundary pushing didn’t pay off in sales. After teetering on the brink of ruin, Double Fine has since reinvented itself as a maker of smaller, charming and family-friendly games for Xbox Live. Last month’s Costume Quest is already one of the most winsome games to come out this year, and it’s Double Fine’s most successful game to date, and now Double Fine looks ready to try the formula again with Stacking, an upcoming downloadable game based entirely around the world of matryoshkas, or Russian nesting dolls. An adventure puzzler, Stacking follows Charlie Blackmore, a Russian nesting doll, as he navigates a matryoshka’s world set against a 1930’s era backdrop. The goal of the game is eponymous: navigate obstacles and solve puzzles by using various nesting dolls (each with their own unique abilities) and stacking them in different ways.It sounds like another winning entry in Double Fine’s game library. Stacking will hit Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network sometime in Spring 2011.Read more at IGNlast_img
