Rooney reveals why he moved to DC United

first_imgWayne Rooney has revealed that the new Audi Field stadium had a major effect on his decision to end his spell in English football for a move across the Atlantic to MLS side DC UnitedThe Manchester United legend has joined the capital club in a three-and-a-half-year deal and has begun training with his new teammates ahead of his expected debut match against the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 14.Rooney’s debut will coincide with the inauguration of DC United’s new 20,000-seater stadium and the 32-year-old revealed just how much of an important factor that was in his final decision.Speaking at the unveiling of the new ground at Buzzard Point, Washington, Rooney said (via Sky Sports): “First of all, I want to say a huge thank you to the fans. On the first day when I arrived at the airport, I will never forget the reception you gave me.“Secondly, to all the owners of the football club for creating this beautiful stadium. When I spoke to them about coming here to play I could tell the excitement they had with the stadium.“I’ve seen the new training ground as well which will be completed next year.
